1Vino a mí palabra de Jehová, diciendo:

2Hijo de hombre, ¿qué es la madera de la vid más que cualquier otra madera? ¿Qué es el sarmiento entre los árboles del bosque?

3¿Tomarán de ella madera para hacer alguna obra? ¿Tomarán de ella una estaca para colgar en ella alguna cosa?

4He aquí, es puesta en el fuego para ser consumida; sus dos extremos consumió el fuego, y la parte de en medio se quemó; ¿servirá para obra alguna?

5He aquí que cuando estaba entera no servía para obra alguna; ¿cuánto menos después que el fuego la hubiere consumido, y fuere quemada? ¿Servirá más para obra alguna?

6Por tanto, así ha dicho Jehová el Señor: Como la madera de la vid entre los árboles del bosque, la cual di al fuego para que la consumiese, así haré a los moradores de Jerusalén.

7Y pondré mi rostro contra ellos; aunque del fuego se escaparon, fuego los consumirá; y sabréis que yo soy Jehová, cuando pusiere mi rostro contra ellos.

8Y convertiré la tierra en asolamiento, por cuanto cometieron prevaricación, dice Jehová el Señor.

The images are of a worthless vine (ch 15); a faithless wife (ch 16); a vine and two eagles (ch 17); sour grapes (ch 18); a lion and her cubs (ch 19); a sword (ch 21); two degenerate sisters (ch 23); and a cooking pot (ch 24). 15:1-5 The wood of a tree can be used to make all kinds of useful objects, pegs being the simplest and most basic. A vine’s wood, however, has no strength, size, or beauty, so it is useless for pegs and it is not even good as fuel because it burns too quickly. It is completely useless.
